Summary / Primary Role:Â Â Â
The Yard Hostler will be primarily responsible for maintaining the efficient flow of containers to support loading operations at both the dry and reefer docks.Â

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Â

Â
- Moves trailers in/out of shipping and receiving doors.  Â
- Communicates with the dock regarding moves to ensure accuracy and timeliness.  Â
- Performs various yard checks/audits.  Â
- Assists in maintaining Inbound and Outbound dock and staging areas. Â
- Completes daily equipment inspection reports.  Â
- Ensures that all required processes are performed concerning proper paperwork, seals, locking and securing trailers, etc.  Â
- Completes other related duties as assigned. Takes the initiative in periods of downtime to complete other duties and remain productive.  Â
- Ability to stay focused and organized in periods of varying work volume, moving quickly to execute trailer moves safely and accurately.  Â
- Works with a pace that matches the urgency of workflow.   Â
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.  Â
- Schedule flexibility to stay late or come in early in accordance with business needs for trailer moves.Â
- ALL OTHER DUTIES AND PROJECTS AS ASSIGNED. Â

Qualifications and Key Skills:Â

- High school education; at least one to three years hostler experience. Â
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Â
- Ability to write simple correspondence.  Â
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Â
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Â
- Forklift CertificationÂ
- General WarehousingÂ

Expected Hours of Work:Â
Associate must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Â
