Position Summary
The Preparation Tech Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement of preparation department equipment within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, supports production goals, and leads technical employees to maintain safe and efficient operations. The Preparation Tech Manager works closely with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Leadership teams to ensure all machinery operates at optimal performance levels.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of preparation department equipment and machinery in Slashing, Twisting, and Entering.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation-related equipment issues. Work alongside maintenance personnel as needed.
- Coordinate and prioritize preventative maintenance activities to reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
- Lead and support technicians and maintenance personnel in diagnosing and repairing equipment failures.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend process improvements or upgrades.
- Ensure equipment repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Assist with installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
- Work collaboratively with Production leadership to support operational goals and minimize disruptions.
- Train employees and technicians on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and safe work practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to productivity, quality, waste reduction, and safety.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and PPE requirements.
- Manage inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies for the department.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to equipment failures.
- Support emergency maintenance needs and provide technical guidance during critical breakdowns.
- Support and lead roller change activities in the Finishing department as needed.
- Manage roller inventory for the Finishing department and Preparation department.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance, equipment repair, or technical manufacturing experience preferred.
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working with textile manufacturing equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, motors, drives, PLCs, hydraulics, and pneumatics preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance tracking systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and lift to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work around machinery, noise, heat, and industrial environments.
- Ability to wear required PPE and work safely in all production areas.
