Position Description

Job Title: Direct Service Professional

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Job Status: Full Time/Part time

Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal, Adult Program Executive Director, Program Specialist, John Paul II Center for Special Learning

Hours: 7:30 to 3:00 or 8 to 2:30

 

Job Function: Active participation in the day-to-day operation of the Community Participation Supports Program for Adults. This is designed to assist individuals in leading everyday lives through socialization, activities, skill building, and personal growth as set forth by the mission of the John Paul Center for Special Learning.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform caretaking tasks such as feeding, toileting, changing, and maintaining a healthy, safe environment.

 

  • Assist and/or support individuals with daily living tasks and activity participation, while encouraging the greatest level of independence.

 

  • Assist the Program Specialist and Director with the development and implementation of annual outcomes and ISPs.

 

  • Participation in team meetings and ISP reviews.

 

  • Learn and employ individual communication strategies, behavioral, and medical protocols.

 

  • To have a familiarity and a working understanding of ODP Principles and Values, Incident Management, and mandatory reporting responsibilities.

 

  • Completion of daily documentation and record maintenance. Attendance and participation in staff development and meetings.

 

  • Building and maintaining positive relationships within the program and the John Paul II community.

 

  • Ability to transport individuals at JPII to different community activities in the program vehicles.

 

  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Specialist and Director.

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Must have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

 

  • Knowledge of how to navigate through sensitive matters and the ability to support and teach adults with intellectual, physical, and psychological disabilities.

 

  • Possess the ability to work independently, implement plans, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain confidentiality regarding consumer/Program activities.

 

  • Required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment.

 

  • Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances, with a diversity of individuals.

 

  • Background clearances required (Child Abuse, PA Criminal Check, Fingerprinting, Mandated Reporter Training, and Protecting God's Children Training).

 

  • Have a valid driver's license and clean driving record to transport individuals to community activities in program vehicles.

 

Physical Demands: Sitting and standing for extended periods of time. May frequently move or lift participants weighing up to 100 lbs. from wheelchairs to tables or desks. Frequent bending at the waist, kneeling, crouching, and pushing or pulling to assist students is also required. May reach overhead as well as above shoulders and horizontally. Dexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate activities or run medical and instructional equipment is required as is hearing and speaking to exchange information, make presentations, hear in a noisy environment, and locate the source of a sound. Reading a variety of materials and monitoring student activities is required. Possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

 

Working Conditions: This is a full time or part-time position that will work Monday- Friday: 7:30 AM- 3:00PM or 8:00 AM- 2:30 PM. in a variety of settings including program and community settings. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal program day to attend center-related events.
