Job Description
Position Summary:
The Night Shift Plant Operator is responsible for safely unloading inbound ingredient trucks and moving trailers within the facility yard. This role requires operating plant equipment and maneuvering tractor-trailers strictly on company-owned private property. A CDL is not required; however, candidates must be capable of safely driving and positioning 18-wheelers within a controlled, private yard environment.
A Sample of What You’ll Do in this Role:
• Safely unload bulk and packaged ingredient trucks using appropriate plant equipment and procedures
• Inspect incoming loads for accuracy, quality, and proper documentation
• Operate yard tractors or semi-trucks to move trailers to and from docks, staging areas, and parking zones on company-owned private property
• Ensure proper placement of trailers for efficient unloading and plant operations
• Perform pre- and post-operation equipment checks and report maintenance needs
• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, unloading activities, and trailer movements
• Follow all safety, food safety, and company policies and procedures
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and co-workers to coordinate workflow
• Handle scale house operations during night shift hours, including verifying bills of lading (BOL) and managing weigh-in/weigh-out of inbound and outbound trucks
• Report all safety hazards, near-misses, and incidents immediately; adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements and plant traffic patterns
• Prioritize inbound trailer unloading and yard movement based on the established schedule, coordinating with the Night Shift Supervisor on any changes or exceptions
• Keep work areas clean and organized
Requirements
What You Bring to the Role:
• Experience driving or moving tractor-trailers; CDL not required, on-site operation only
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or plant environment is a plus
• Ability to operate forklifts, or other unloading equipment
• Strong attention to safety and detail
• Basic mechanical aptitude
• Ability to work independently during night shift hours
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed
• Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods outdoors, including on trailers, silos, and ladders; comfortable working at heights, on uneven surfaces, and in low-light/nighttime conditions, in varying environmental conditions (heat, cold, dust, etc.)
• Comfortable working around moving equipment and vehicles
• Willingness to work the night shift (typically 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM), weekends, and overtime as needed; scheduled hours, days, and shift length may change based on operational needs and must be approached with flexibility
• Ability to always wear required PPE while on the floor or required areas (hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and hi-vis vest at minimum)
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), FSMA, Quality Standards, allergen and cross-contamination awareness.
