DEPARTMENT: Cardiology JOB TITLE: Ultrasound Tech - Sonographer SHIFT:  FTE 1.0, Full-Time (80 hours bi-weekly) JOB SUMMARY An ultrasound technician or sonographer operates imaging equipment, balances patient interaction and technological performance with a firm knowledge of anatomy and pathology by working cohesively with a healthcare team. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performing a variety of cardiac ultrasounds including transesophageal and transthoracic imaging and ensuring the transducer (probe) is capturing images correctly and the proper technique is used Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients in order to avoid confusion. Use positioning tools and safety equipment properly to ensure patient safety. Ensuring the patient is procedure ready by reviewing medical records prior to the appointment and have a clear understanding of the images required and the correct order is present Prepare, Maintain, trouble shoot and clean ultrasound equipment. Prepare and maintain the room in which the procedure takes place ensuring proper sterilization and safety procedures are followed Advanced understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology along with maintaining all necessary credentials and keeping up to date on emerging technologies with in the field of cardiac ultrasound. Present quality images and preliminary findings to physicians and the healthcare team Maintaining patient records and documenting notes related to the ultrasound procedure Strong social perceptiveness, professional demeanor, critical thinking, clear communication, active listening and customer service awareness Maintains fiscal responsibility and participates in process improvement initiatives and supports the vision of the collective team. Demonstrates knowledge of and a commitment to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital’s guiding principles and values. Qualifications Education: Training from an accredited program with cardiac concentration Licensure/Certification: BLS certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to providing direct patient care 6 months of ultrasound experience preferred with concentration in cardiac Qualifications
