Job Summary:
Education / Experience / Knowledge Education: Minimum High School Graduate/GED Equivalent, College Degree and/or Trade Certification preferred Experience: Minimum (1-2) years supervisory experience in a mining/manufacturing operation. Knowledge: Knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems in a mining/manufacturing operation Essential Function Safely and economically produce quality artificial granules for SGI customers. Be a role model for safety, while driving a continuous improvement culture within your work group. Lead, manage and develop work skills of employees. Manage costs at the lowest possible level while producting the quantity and quality of granules on-time and according to the production plan. Lead and manage special projects involving coloring and or employees. Build and coach cross functional teams for continuous improvement. Implement Lean Manufacturing and/or other Continuous Improvement and problem solving techniques. Core Competencies • Strong safety and housekeeping orientation and knowledge of MSHA rules and regulations • Ensure all federal, state and local rules and regulations are followed • Proficient verbal and written communication skills • Ability to lead employees and a desire and willingness to drive change in improving operations • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other Continuous Improvement and problem solving techniques. • Root Cause Analysis experience or other problem solving technique. • Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) Planning, Raw Materials management, and Constraint Management knowledge. Job Responsibilities • Ensure safety, quality, production and housekeeping standards are met at all times • Acquire and demonstrate thorough knowledge of MSHA standards • Conduct contactor safety inspections per SGI policy • Clearly understand and execute Emergency Management Plan if needed • Ability to lead/influence/manage people • Good decision making skills • Good organizational skills • Lead and manage assigned production personnel to safely meet/exceed all manufacturing goals • Develop and improve assigned production personnel skills in preparation for future career opportunities • Willingness to embrace change and champion change positively to direct reports • Team player - Positive interaction and participation on teams • Know and understand all product specifications • Clearly understand the process and equipment locations • Excellent trouble shooting skills • Conduct root cause analysis to identify and correct the root causes of events, as opposed to simply addressing their symptoms. • Effective verbal/written/listening communications skills • Proficient Computer skills – Microsoft Office Outlook/Excel/Word • Accurately and timely prepare required reports and maintain accurate data and other records as required • Schedule/plan manpower and production schedules • Effectively communicate maintenance needs with maintenance supervisors, maintenance manager, production supervisors and operations manager • Notification of downtime to management with clear/detailed explanation of issues as required • Write clearly defined work orders and develop SOP’s for department • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings using Lean Manufacturing principles, continuous improvement and problem solving techniques where applicable Working Conditions Work entails direct supervision of Production Personnel and Operations. Operations are performed in enclosed facilities and outdoor areas where extremes of heat, cold, dust, noise, wet conditions and rough terrain exist. Operations are conducted 24/7, 5-7 days per week with weekly shift rotations. Approximately 30% of the work is administrative in nature.
