Atlantic Veterinary Internal Medicine and Oncology has been providing outstanding patient care for the past 24 years. Just 5 minutes from downtown Annapolis is our state-of-the-art emergency and referral center. We have 6veterinarians and 40+ support staff, including technicians, assistants, client service representatives, and patient care coordinators. We work along side and in collaboration with other specialty practices, including neurology, imagining, cardiology, surgery, radiation oncology, ophthalmology, and a 24 hour emergency clinic


Shift Times Available: Three 7am-7pm weekday shifts with rotating weekend/holiday on call limited to 8am-12pm 

  

What You'll Get to Do 

  • Perform treatments such as intravenous catheterization, blood collection, fluid therapy, oxygen therapy & administering medications 
  • Provide high quality patient care through timely monitoring; correctly perform treatments as directed by veterinarian 
  • Collect & analyze bloodurine, & cytology samples both in-house & utilizing a wide variety of external diagnostic laboratories 
  • Administer anesthetic drugs & adjust them as needed during procedures, while recording & monitoring vital signs 
  • Assist with procedures such as ultrasound, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, & bone marrow aspirates 
  • Produce images of soft-tissues, organs & bones safely with digital radiography equipment 
  • Assist in placement & maintain various feeding tubes for critical nutrition  
  • Administer packed red blood cell & frozen plasma transfusions 
  • Calculate drug dosages & administers drugs
  • Provide outstanding customer service during visits & phone updates 
  • Attend CE courses/webinars or hands-on training as requested by the Clinical Educator  
  • Regularly attend staff meetings

At AVIM&O we believe in Work - Life balance and healthy lifestyleWe believe in LOTS of time off, vacations, and spending quality time with your loved ones. In general, our technicians have a set schedule with regular days off each week. We rotate our weekend and holiday on call shifts, which are from 8am-12pm and only require technicians to come in if we have hospitalized patients. Each technician is typically scheduled for no more than 6 weekends/holidays per year. 

  

Knowledge & Skill Requirements 

  • Working knowledge & skill required to nurse critically ill patients 
  • Ability to critically think & problem solve in order to follow through on doctor's orders 
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions & the ability to learn new veterinary based software
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful work environment. Must be able to maintain professionalism & composure at all times. 
  • Able to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, clients & the public in a professional manner 
  • Knowledge of the use, care, & storage of veterinary instruments, materials, & equipment. 
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as accept direction on given assignments.  
  • Ability to speak, read & write the English language 

 

Education & Experience for Technicians

  • 2 years of veterinary technician experiencepreferably in specialty or emergency/critical care veterinary medicine 
  • High School or Equivalent 

  

Education & Experience for RVT's

  • 2 years of veterinary experience, preferably in specialty or emergency/critical care veterinary medicine 
  • Candidate must be a licensed technician, or eligible to be licensed, in the state of Maryland.
