About the Position

The part-time Security Officer performs routine security services in library buildings, including patrol services, assistance with emergency services, and operational functions to maintain the safety and security of staff and the general public.

This is a part-time position at 19 hours per week for our North Valley Regional Library.

We Require

• One year of security, law enforcement, public safety, or customer-intensive public service experience

• High school diploma or GED

Other Requirements

• Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Identity Verified Print (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card

• Within three months of hire, the selected candidate will be required to complete a series of on-the-job library customer service and situational awareness trainings to assist with de-escalation, safety, and security techniques

Job Contributions

• Greet customers as they enter the library

• Assist with library opening and closing duties

• Conduct frequent patrols of the library (interior and exterior)

• Ensure that customers are adhering to behavior expectations/code of conduct

• Listen and watch for escalated situations and be prepared to assist staff when necessary

• Respond to staff requests for assistance as needed

• Submit daily activity reports to the branch manager

• Assist staff with trespass situations

• Respond to security gate alarms

• Complete customer incident reports as needed

Working Conditions

• Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree

• Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

• Work is performed at a security station and will require frequent walking and patrolling of assigned facilities
