Position Summary

 

The Field Safety Specialist works to detect, prevent, and mitigate safety risks. Provides subject matter expertise on field observations and provides consultation and guidance on corrective action development. Collaborates with and supports lines of business (LOBs) on safety issues. Communicates safety trends and recommends corrective actions. Serves as a resource for the development, implementation, and sustainability of the various company-wide safety initiatives. The Field Safety Specialist job family is limited to the Enterprise Health & Safety functional area for reporting to the Chief Safety Officer.
 

This position is hybrid. You will work from your remote office and your assigned location based on business needs. The headquarters’ is located in the Metcalf Substation. 
 

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company, in good faith, believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $48.08 to $81.25.  

 

Job Responsibilities

 

•    Conducts field contractor safety observations and engagements.
•    Supports contractors and the construction management team as a subject matter expert to help determine causal factors.
•    May lead the causal analysis portion of the investigation
•    Ensures mutual collaboration with the line of business and integrates at all levels of the organization regarding safety (field employees, grassroots)
•    Performs technical safety regulator (Cal/OSHA, OSHA, ANSI) gaps in company requirements for High-Risk Project.
•    Communicates safety trends and recommends safety corrective actions.
•    Coaches LOB supervisors on new safety programs.
•    Serves as a Safety subject matter expert for LOB supervisors and field employees.
•    Consults with LOB Supervisors on incident investigations, SIAP completion, and corrective actions development
•    May attend Safety Kickoffs or morning meetings with crews to discuss new safety information.

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

 

•    High School or GED (General Educational Development) Diploma
•    Relevant experience, 5 years
•    Ability to have or obtain a safety professional certification, initial level, for example, ASP, CHST, CUSP, OHST, within 1 year of job placement

 

Desired:

 

•    Bachelor’s degree in environmental health and safety or job-related discipline or equivalent experience
•    Safety professional certification, for example, CIH, CSP, CHMM

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies: 

 

  • Electrical Safety / Substation Experience
  • Basic knowledge of
    • PG&E safety procedures and the Code of Safe Practices.
    • Cal/OSHA general industry and construction safety orders.
    • Job safety analysis.
    • Quality corrective action understanding.
    • Office and field ergonomics.
  • Proficient at conducting and evaluating:
    • Root cause analysis investigations.
    • Basic job hazard evaluations and recommending appropriate controls.
    • Energy-Based Safety Observations and the Capacity Model
  • Demonstrates skill in delivering clear, understandable oral presentations to groups.
  • Use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Co-Pilot
