Description

Position Summary

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all production activities This position ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production of garage door parts and assemblies while providing leadership, coaching, and accountability to production employees. The Shift Supervisor works closely with maintenance, quality, shipping, and management teams to achieve production goals and continuously improve operational performance.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Management

  • Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives. 
  • Ensure production schedules are followed, and customer requirements are met. 
  • Monitor labor utilization and staffing levels throughout the shift. 
  • Track and report production metrics, downtime, scrap, and efficiency. 
  • Identify and resolve production issues to minimize disruptions. 
  • Delegate duties to Team Leaders of each department.

Employee Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and develop production team members and Team Leaders.
  • Conduct shift start-up meetings and communicate daily goals and expectations. 
  • Train employees on work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards. 
  • Monitor employee performance and provide coaching and corrective action when necessary. 
  • Support employee engagement and foster a positive team environment. 

Safety

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all company safety policies. 
  • Conduct regular safety observations and address unsafe conditions immediately. 
  • Investigate workplace incidents and near misses. 
  • Ensure employees use required personal protective equipment (PPE). 

Quality Assurance

  • Ensure products meet established quality standards and customer specifications. 
  • Work closely with Quality personnel to address defects and implement corrective actions. 
  • Monitor scrap and rework levels and drive continuous improvement efforts. 
  • Verify adherence to standard operating procedures and work instructions. 

Equipment and Maintenance

  • Monitor production equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities as needed. 
  • Communicate equipment issues promptly to maintenance personnel. 
  • Support preventive maintenance initiatives and equipment reliability efforts. 

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost efficiency. 
  • Assist with implementation of process improvements and standardization efforts. 

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete production reports, attendance records, and shift documentation for all departments operation on shift. 
  • Maintain accurate labor and production records. 
  • Communicate shift performance, issues, and priorities during shift handoffs. 

Requirements

 

Experience

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience required. 
  • 1-3 years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. 
  • Experience in metal fabrication, roll forming, stamping, assembly, or related manufacturing environments preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and employee development skills. 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production scheduling. 
  • Ability to interpret production reports and performance metrics. 
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements and manufacturing best practices. 
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. 
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and movement throughout the production floor. 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, dust, and varying temperatures.
