Regional Equipment Manager

Position Summary

The Regional Equipment Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight for the company's construction, transportation, and marine equipment assets across multiple operating regions. This role is responsible for optimizing fleet performance, equipment availability, maintenance effectiveness, capital investments, and total cost of ownership while ensuring alignment with operational and business objectives.

Working in close partnership with Regional Operations Vice Presidents and operational leaders, the Regional Equipment Manager develops and executes regional equipment strategies that support project execution, business growth, safety performance, and operational efficiency. The position serves as a key advisor to leadership by leveraging fleet data, maintenance metrics, and industry best practices to maximize asset utilization, reduce downtime, and improve return on investment.

Pay: $165K - $185K Annually

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead regional fleet lifecycle management, including specification development, rental-versus-ownership analysis, rebuild programs, redeployment, and asset replacement strategies.
  • Manage and optimize a diverse fleet consisting of heavy construction equipment, on-road transportation assets, marine equipment, and mid-size.
  • Partner with Regional Operations Leaders to align equipment strategies with operational goals, project demands, workforce planning, and regional growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operations managers, project leaders, superintendents, estimators, procurement teams, and safety professionals to forecast equipment needs and optimize fleet deployment.
  • Develop and monitor key fleet performance indicators, including equipment availability, utilization, maintenance costs, downtime, cost per hour, rental spend, fuel efficiency, and asset return.
  • Utilize fleet management systems, telematics, and operational analytics to drive data-based decisions and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Oversee preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime, extend asset life, and reduce unplanned failures.
  • Implement maintenance performance standards and accountability measures across regional shops, field service operations, and maintenance teams.
  • Lead equipment failure investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action initiatives to improve reliability and performance.
  • Develop and manage regional operating and capital budgets, ensuring responsible stewardship of fleet-related expenditures.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership while maintaining safe, reliable, and productive equipment operations.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with manufacturers, dealers, rental providers, marine vendors, and service partners to ensure competitive pricing and responsive support.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable DOT, OSHA, MSHA, Coast Guard, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Champion innovation through the implementation of fleet technologies, telematics, predictive maintenance tools, and process improvements that enhance operational performance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Equipment Managers, Shop Managers, Fleet Supervisors, mechanics, technicians, and other equipment personnel throughout the region.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive equipment, fleet, or maintenance leadership experience in construction, heavy civil, transportation, mining, marine, or related industries.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, earthmoving equipment, and marine assets.
  • Proven leadership experience managing maintenance teams in both shop and field environments.
  • Knowledge in diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrain components, diagnostic technologies, and maintenance best practices.
  • Experience with telematics, CMMS, fleet management systems, and data analytics.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen managing multimillion-dollar operating and capital budgets.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Fleet Management, related field or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly throughout the assigned region.
