Position Overview:

As a Process Improvement Engineer, you will play a critical role in transforming manufacturing operations by driving efficiency, eliminating waste, and delivering measurable cost savings across multiple facilities. In this high-impact role, you will lead data-driven improvement initiatives that optimize production systems and align with strategic business objectives.

 

Through close collaboration with cross-functional teams and hands-on coaching of plant personnel, you will help embed a culture of continuous improvement, operational excellence, and innovation—empowering teams to achieve sustainable, high-performance results.


What you will do:

Process Optimization & Operational Efficiency

  • Analyze manufacturing processes through time studies, capacity analysis, and workflow evaluations to improve labor and equipment utilization.
  • Identify and eliminate waste while reducing production costs through lean methodologies and data-driven decision-making.
  • Optimize plant performance by translating analytical insights into actionable improvement initiatives.

 

Continuous Improvement & Lean Transformation

  • Lead improvement initiatives using A3 problem-solving, Kaizen, and Value Stream Mapping to drive operational efficiency and measurable results.
  • Deploy and sustain MIQ Lean Transformation and Smithfield Way principles to support long-term cultural and organizational change.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts that align with enterprise-wide operational excellence goals.

 

Training, Coaching & Change Management

  • Facilitate and participate in training workshops that promote operational excellence and cultural transformation.
  • Coach and mentor plant teams on lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Enable teams to adopt sustainable, high-performance behaviors through structured change management practices.

 

Technology Integration & Systems Support

  • Support the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new equipment and technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitor installations to ensure alignment with technical requirements, timelines, and budget constraints.
  • Utilize tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, CAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor Experience, and QAD for process documentation, analysis, and performance tracking.

 

Data Analytics & Root Cause Analysis

  • Lead and support root cause investigations and corrective action planning to resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Convert operational data into improvement projects using A3 methodology to drive measurable outcomes.
  • Strengthen data integrity to improve decision-making across operations.

 

Standardization & Best Practices

  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work standards, and visual management systems.
  • Establish and implement “Best-in-Class” and “Best Practice” methods to reduce variability and drive cost efficiency.
  • Ensure consistent execution and adherence to standards across manufacturing sites.

 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, robotics/automation, and corporate leadership to standardize processes and drive alignment.
  • Support enterprise-wide initiatives by improving cross-functional communication and collaboration.
  • Strengthen organizational decision-making through accurate, consistent, and transparent data sharing.

 

Compliance, Reporting & Sustainability

  • Support internal and external audits by ensuring process compliance and documentation accuracy.
  • Sustain implemented improvements through governance, accountability, and performance tracking.
  • Provide regular progress updates and strategic reports to senior leadership.
  • Advance environmental sustainability initiatives focused on reducing energy consumption, water usage, and waste.

Skills for Success:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution in Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial engineering, or process improvement.

Preferred Education and experience

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in medical device, life sciences, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Formal Lean or Continuous Improvement certification (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt).
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide or multi-site improvement initiatives.
  • Experience supporting automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Working knowledge of FDA, ISO 13485, and GMP requirements as they relate to manufacturing processes.
  • Prior experience delivering quantified cost savings and productivity improvements.
  • Change management or project management certification (e.g., Prosci, PMP) is a plus.

<10% travel required

 

 

 

Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $130,000 (Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location and budget)
