About the Position

We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Assistant Project Manager to lead overnight grocery stocking and custodial operations. This is a working management position, not a desk-only role. You will be expected to supervise the operation, support administrative responsibilities, process payroll, and actively assist employees with stocking and custodial duties when needed.

Primary Responsibilities

• Supervise, train, motivate, and support approximately 40 overnight grocery stockers and custodians.
• Work alongside the team by stocking merchandise, rotating products, facing shelves, and helping meet nightly production goals.
• Perform custodial duties as needed, including floor care, restroom cleaning, trash removal, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Assign nightly work and monitor employee attendance, productivity, quality, and performance.
• Process employee payroll accurately using Microsoft Excel and maintain complete timekeeping records.
• Ensure payroll information is reviewed and submitted correctly and on time.
• Ensure products are stocked correctly, rotated properly, and expiration dates are monitored.
• Maintain a positive and professional work environment while enforcing company policies, union requirements, and safety procedures.
• Communicate with Project Management regarding staffing, payroll, operational concerns, and nightly progress.
• Lead by example through professionalism, reliability, excellent attendance, and a strong work ethic.
• Assist wherever needed to ensure the nightly workload is completed successfully.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or management experience in grocery, retail, warehouse, commissary, custodial, or a similar fast-paced operation is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel is required; experience using Excel for payroll, timekeeping, scheduling, or tracking employee hours is strongly preferred.
• Strong computer, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to lead, coach, motivate, and maintain a productive team.
• Experience with grocery stocking, custodial work, warehouse operations, or physical labor is strongly preferred.
• Willingness to perform the same physical work as the employees being supervised.
• Dependable, dedicated, and able to maintain excellent attendance.

Requirements

• Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
• Must successfully pass a Department of Defense (DoD) background check.
• Must be able to obtain Fort Myer Installation Access Clearance as approved by base security.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and work on your feet for extended periods.
