POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Pioneering Evolution is seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Business Operations Manager to support the company’s financial management and day-to-day operational execution. This role is responsible for overseeing key business operations functions including financial management, budgeting, payroll, compliance, and performance reporting in a fast-paced small business environment supporting Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and software development initiatives.

The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in a dynamic environment where priorities evolve and team members wear multiple hats. This individual must be proactive in identifying operational needs, taking ownership of responsibilities, and supporting leadership with financial insight and operational discipline. The Business Operations Manager will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency across the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day business operations including financial processes, administrative functions, and operational support activities
  • Prepare and manage monthly financial inputs including expense tracking, reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Execute payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company policies
  • Administer and support employee retirement plans including coordination of 401(k) contributions, inquiries, and compliance requirements
  • Support and coordinate annual financial audits and maintain accurate financial documentation
  • Develop and manage the company’s annual operating budget in coordination with executive leadership
  • Monitor financial performance by comparing actual expenditures and revenue against planned budgets
  • Generate financial and operational performance metrics and provide leadership with insights and reporting
  • Identify financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Provide oversight and approval support for monthly and annual budget execution
  • Ensure compliance with government contracting financial requirements including DCAA guidelines and documentation standards
  • Support internal financial controls and maintain accurate records for audits and reporting
  • Take initiative to identify operational gaps and implement process improvements
  • Support additional operational and administrative duties as required in a growing small business environment

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in business operations, finance, or business management roles
  • Experience supporting small businesses or small government contractors
  • Strong financial management experience including budgeting, financial reporting, and expense tracking
  • Experience processing payroll and managing employee benefit programs such as 401(k) plans
  • Experience supporting financial audits and maintaining compliant financial records
  • Familiarity with DCAA compliance requirements and government contracting financial practices
  • Ability to develop and manage annual budgets and track financial performance against plans
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to generate metrics and performance reports
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working in a DoD contracting or technology-focused organization
  • Familiarity with Unanet or similar government contracting financial management systems
  • Experience supporting proposal financial planning or contract financial management
  • Knowledge of FAR/DFARS financial requirements
  • Experience implementing operational or financial process improvements in a growing organization
