Job Description

Purpose & Scope:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician for Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD) services is responsible for all medication management needs incurred by the VHC Health HOPDs.

This position also performs limited tasks including receiving daily pharmacy deliveries and supporting the inpatient pharmacy team during unplanned or planned staffing shortages.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:

Two years of retail/hospital pharmacy experience is required.

One year of computer experience is required.

Certification/Licensure:

Licensed as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required.

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.

Other Qualifications

  • Familiarity with commonly prescribed medications, brand/generic names, use, doses, frequencies, and dosage forms is required
  • Must have excellent computer skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under pressure with other healthcare professionals
  • Must be knowledgeable and serve as a resource to the Hospital Outpatient Department Staff regarding medication management, Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy and DEA regulatory requirements.
