The Chief Engineer will assist the Project Manager in the day-to-day management and operations of the facility and is responsible for the management and operations of the facility and systems of all building mechanicals; ensuring a safe working environment; conducting routine assessments; and performing day-to-day corrective and preventative maintenance. The Chief Engineer acts as a leader to the skilled technicians in their daily schedule of tasks. This position is responsible for systems and equipment including heating and ventilation, pumps, hot water, cold water, air conditioning, valves, piping, filters, plumbing systems, electrical systems, etc. Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm Essential Job Functions: Supervise employees engaged in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the high- and low-pressure steam distribution systems for heating, drying, air-conditioning, and air and water pressure systems. Conduct own routine assessments and perform preventative and reactive maintenance Perform constant reviews on operating and servicing functions in order to provide continuous service and prevent breakdowns. Generate and update Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) guides regularly. Ensure personnel perform all task safely and effectively. Ensure staff operate and maintain site-critical engineering systems and equipment that supply the facility with heat, utility and conditioned power, ventilation, air conditioning and other environmental and critical systems in accordance with diagrams, operating manuals, industry best practices, and manufacturers specifications. Support staff with the engineering systems and drawings and equipment, including boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, electrical distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, etc. Operate and maintain critical systems such as HVAC, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, batteries, switchgear, life safety and building automated systems, and utility systems. Make periodic inspections of all engineering systems and equipment and monitoring equipment operations, maintain equipment operating logs and operational reports as required. Proficiently use test equipment and devices pertinent to building operating systems and analyze test results. Other duties as assigned QualificationsRequired Skills, Experience and Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Must possess a current and active Secret clearance, or have ability to obtain one 5 years of experience (within the past 7 years) as a Chief Engineer or Asst Chief Engineer in a commercial building of similar size and complexity Master HVAC License or DC/ MD/ VA 1st Class Steam Engineer License Ability to communicate professionally, positively, and effectively with government representatives, vendors, and customers Proficient in computer applications including work order systems and email applications Knowledge of, and experience with CMMS and BAS systems Equipment Used: • Office Equipment such as computers, phones, tablets, etc. • Facilities Management software (NCMMS) • Tools and equipment related to the maintenance and repair of building systems.
