D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Compensation Accounting Manager. The right candidate will oversee accounting activities related to executive compensation programs, including incentive bonuses, equity-based compensation, and benefit-related accruals. This role performs detailed financial calculations and ensures compensation transactions are accurately recorded in alignment with plan documents, accounting standards, and company policies. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Calculate quarterly and annual incentive compensation and bonus payouts using plan documentation

  • Prepare and maintain compensation-related accrual calculations, including journal entries and reconciliations to ensure accurate general ledger reporting

  • Distribute bonus and compensation reporting to leadership for review and approval, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality

  • Coordinate with Payroll to support accurate processing of incentive payments

  • Review payroll-related accruals, employee benefit liabilities, and related compensation accounting entries for completeness and compliance

  • Produce executive-level ad hoc compensation reporting and financial analysis to support business planning and decision-making

  • Prepare audit schedules, documentation, and supporting materials for internal and external audits related to compensation and payroll accounting

  • Identify process improvement opportunities within compensation accounting workflows and implement enhancements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls

  • Support system updates, policy changes, or compensation plan modifications impacting accounting processes

  • Conduct all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

  • May have supervisory responsibilities



Education and/or Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

  • Two to five years of experience in public accounting, public company reporting, payroll accounting, or related accounting functions

  • Strong computer skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new programs/systems quickly is essential

  • Advanced analytical and Excel modeling skills with the ability to perform detailed financial calculations, analysis and reconciliations

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities and meet deadlines

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while effectively communicating complex compensation and accounting information clearly  

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications

  • Ability to sit for majority of 8-hour workday; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision

  • The noise level is generally moderate

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred

  • Experience with payroll accounting, incentive compensation accounting, or executive compensation programs preferred
