General Position Summary: The Preschool teacher provides quality care and instruction in a loving environment, striving to help each child grow mentally, socially and spiritually.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Under the direction of the St. Vincent’s Academy Director, provide age-appropriate instructional program including:
- Lesson Plans, completed at least one week in advance
- Classroom preparation
- Assessment of each student’s performance
- Extended and enrichment opportunitiesÂ
- Supervise students
- Participates with teachers in morning prayer, faculty meetings, school events, in-servicesÂ
- Attends all school functions, enrichment opportunities and activitiesÂ
- Creates an environment that fosters a dynamic love for learning in the classroom and through all activities
- Responsible for other duties as assigned
- Follows Teacher Expectations checklist given at the beginning of the school year
Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:
Exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
Day-to-day care and instruction of children in a classroom environment
Supervision Given and/or Received:
 Supervised by the Program Director.
Internal Contacts:
- Will work with the supervisor to discuss the needs of the programs under his/her day-to-day leadership.
- Work in cooperation with other teachers
External Contacts:
- Will communicate as needed with parents/guardians, and parish staff.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
- This position works in a classroom environment, subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the children.
- Ability to stand or sit for lengthy periods of time.
Travel Requirements:
- None
Education and Experience Preferred:
- Practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium and in good standing with the Catholic Church.
- High School Diploma, BA in Education preferred.
- Training and understanding of preschool education methods and subject areas
- Catechesis of the Good Shepherd certification and Montessori Experience a plus.
- Two years of classroom experience preferred
- Successful completion of the Diocesan Safe Environment process.
