SAIC is seeking a highly experienced Software Configuration Manager (SCM) Chief to support a mission-critical Department of the Air Force C3BM program, ensuring operational readiness and consistency of advanced software systems across ground nodes, aerial nodes, and cloud environments. This role focuses on managing software configurations, version control, and integration processes while ensuring compliance with DoD and program requirements.

The Senior SCM will collaborate with Field Service Representatives (FSRs), government stakeholders, and mission partners to maintain consistent software assets, troubleshoot deployment issues, and oversee enterprise-level software configuration management in secure environments. The majority of the work will be onsite in Arlington, VA but may require CONUS/OCONUS travel to support ground or airborne mission systems.

Key Responsibilities 

Software Configuration & Lifecycle:

  • Develop and implement configuration management (CM) processes and tools for mission-critical software systems, ensuring consistency, reliability, and compliance with DoD standards.
  • Manage version control systems, ensuring changes are properly logged, tracked, and documented.
  • Support ongoing integration and release management for ground and air nodes, ensuring proper versioning and deployments.

Kubernetes Environments Support:

  • Configure and manage Kubernetes-based deployments, including zarf package integrations in secure, air-gapped environments.
  • Oversee troubleshooting of deployment-related network and software compatibility issues.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed software configuration logs, perform audits of baselines, and prepare metrics/reports for leadership. Provide quarterly configuration management reports and KPIs to ensure operational clarity.
  • Track and analyze system trends and generate compliance updates for Government Program Offices.

Compliance & Support:

  • Perform configuration inspections and audits to ensure adherence to DoD information security and software management standards.
  • Support end users and administrators with resolution of configuration issues, including troubleshooting and deployment of updates through approved ticketing systems.


Education: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or a related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 18 years of experience in software configuration management or related fields, including version control, deployment troubleshooting, and CM tool management.
  • Proven leadership experience managing software baselines across distributed teams and secure environments.
  • Expertise with enterprise-level CM processes for Kubernetes environments and cloud-based architectures.

Certifications (At least one required):

  • Certified Configuration Management Professional (CCMP).
  • ITIL Certification (e.g., ITIL Foundation or Practitioner).
  • PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner) or Certified ScrumMaster (CSM).
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).
  • Jira Certification (e.g., Atlassian Certified Jira Project Administration).

Clearance: Active SECRET clearance, with eligibility for Top Secret/SCI.

Technical Expertise:

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes platforms and deploying zarf packages in air-gapped environments.
  • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps practices, and SBOM (Software Bill of Materials).

Certifications such as:

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA).
  • DevOps Institute Certified Configuration Manager.
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert.

Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to effectively present metrics, updates, and configuration strategies to senior leadership.
