Qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of goals, procedures and practices of Arlington Public Schools Extended Day Program or out of school programming.  Must meet one of the following qualifications:

2 years of experience supervising other staff  AND

Sixteen (16) semester hours of college credit in education, early childhood education, recreation, or other child- related subjects OR

Early Childhood Education Certificate OR

80% completion of Child Development Associates (CDA) requirements (completed all CDA coursework)

Consideration will also be given to those candidates who possess a combination of post-secondary education and experience that meets the requirements of the Virginia Department of Social Services child care licensing standards.

Thorough knowledge of Out of School Time best practices;


Ability to lead a group of child care workers, including the development and articulation of a clear vision;


Ability to identify staff needs to inform and provide regular professional development;


Ability to manage, supervise, and participate in the planning and implementation of program activities that build the Developmental Assets of all children;


Ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, staff, parents and administrators;


Ability to maintain written records and prepare accurate written reports;


Ability to supervise safely the activities of children in a variety of settings;


Working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, social media, and the internet.

An on-site assistant supervisor supports the on-site supervisor, who has the responsibility for the overall operation of an Extended Day (out of school time) program. The assistant supervisor assumes the responsibility to manage the program during the times when the supervisor is not present. 

 

Responsibilities include: 

Create a culture of learning by providing relevant and frequent professional development;

Ensure the safety and well-being of the students enrolled in the program;

Provide a range of age and ability appropriate programs and activities for children 4 - 12 years of age (programming can include, but is not limited to enrichment activities, homework supervision, athletic and recreational activities);

Develop appropriate intervention strategies and collaboration with school staff;

Communicate with parents, administrators, and school staff about all aspects of program operations;

Coach and evaluate assigned staff;

Ensure staff meet annual staff development requirements in accordance with program policy and licensing standards;

Lead and participate in professional development opportunities;

Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program;

The following certifications must be earned within the first 60 days of employment and maintained while employed: First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration Training;

Other related duties as required.

 

Salary:

Salary will be based on the FY2026-27 salary schedule
