Job Description
Purpose & Scope:
The Histotechnologist provides valuable assistance to the Lead Histotechnologist, Medical Technologist and the Pathologists in maintaining facilities and providing the materials necessary for the practice of Anatomic Pathology. The facilities include the areas for autopsies, surgical pathology gross, frozen sections and Histopathology
Education:
Bachelor's degree in medical technology is required.
Experience:
Five years of experience in anatomical pathology is preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
None.
Additional Job Description
- Maintain equipment used for testing and record daily preventative maintenance as required; be able to troubleshoot problems on instruments.
- Prepare frozen sections for pathologist review.
- Perform special stains.
- Clean and maintain gross and autopsy instruments.
- File surgical and autopsy blocks, keeping them in an orderly accessioned system.
- Assist designated personnel in the preparation of solutions and materials for various pathology procedures.
- Disposes of all tissue specimens as required.
- Informs appropriate personnel promptly when supplies and supplies of reagents are low or about to expire.
- Responsible for processing, embedding and cutting tissue.
