Overview:Ā As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer,Ā you will specialize in engineering solutions that supportĀ researchĀ into the vulnerabilities of AIĀ andĀ ML algorithms and securing against those vulnerabilities.Ā
Ā
TheĀ Secure AIĀ Lab within the SEIās AI Division focuses on improving the security and robustness of AI systems. As part of the world-class research community at Carnegie Mellon University, theĀ Secure AIĀ LabĀ conducts and appliesĀ cutting-edgeĀ research toĀ protectĀ AI systems fromĀ adversaries who aim to manipulateĀ the systemĀ to learn, do, or revealĀ something itĀ isnātĀ supposed to.Ā Ā
Ā
TheĀ Secure AIĀ Lab consists of machine learning research scientists, machine learning engineers, and software developers who work together to solve problems in the following areas:Ā
Counter AI Research:Ā Study threat modelsĀ targeting AIĀ andĀ ML algorithms,Ā understand the behaviors of AI algorithms,Ā identifyĀ weak points, and design novel ways to subvert AIĀ andĀ MLĀ systems.Ā Ā Ā
AIĀ andĀ MLĀ Algorithm DefenseĀ Research:Ā CreateĀ practical mitigations and defenses forĀ observedĀ attacksĀ affecting AIĀ andĀ ML algorithmsĀ and evaluate the effectiveness ofĀ defensiveĀ techniques.Ā
Applied Adversarial Machine Learning:Ā Advance the state of the art in adversarial machine learning by developing and transitioning capabilities to government sponsors.Ā
Ā
As an engineer, you will solve problems for government sponsors by analyzing, designing, and building responsible AI systems.Ā
Ā
Your day-to-day engineering tasks will include:Ā
IdentifyingĀ andĀ investigatingĀ emerging AI and AI-adjacent technologies.Ā
Defining andĀ refiningĀ processes, practices, and tools for working with AI.Ā
Designing andĀ buildingĀ well-engineered prototypes of AI systems.Ā
Transitioning andĀ providingĀ guidance onĀ AI capabilities to government sponsors.Ā
Ā
Ā
DutiesĀ
Building Machine Learning Models and Systems:Ā You will work with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow,Ā PyTorch, Torch, and Caffe and modern programming languages including Python, C/C++, and Java. You will build and work with dataĀ pipelines, ETL processes, and backend systems. You will work with, extend, and implementĀ state-of-the-artĀ machine learning methods.āÆāÆāÆĀ
Technical Experimentation:Ā You will experiment with modern and emerging machine learning frameworks, methods, and algorithms in application domains that include computer vision, natural language processing,Ā planningĀ and scheduling, robot control, and engineering safe, trusted, and reliable machine learning systems.Ā
TestingĀ and evaluation.Ā You'llĀ conduct rapid prototyping toĀ demonstrateĀ and evaluate technologies in relevant environments.Ā You'llĀ evaluate systems for performance and security.Ā You'llĀ test capabilities using novel testing and analysis techniques.Ā
Collaboration.Ā You'llĀ activelyĀ participateĀ on teams of developers, researchers, designers, and technical leads.Ā You'llĀ collaborate with researchers and our government customers to understand challenges, needs, andĀ possible solutions.Ā
Mentoring.Ā You'llĀ contribute to improving the overall technical capabilities of the Division by mentoring and teaching others,Ā participatingĀ in design (software and otherwise) sessions, and sharing insights and wisdom across the SEI.Ā
Ā
