Civic Commons Associates are responsible for staffing the welcome desk at the Civic Commons and assisting with the needs of its visitors and program tenants. As a new public service space within the Central Library, the attendant will ensure that visitors to the Civic Commons can easily find and access services for its offices, including: the Computer Center, IDNYC, Passport Services Center, and organizations with residencies in the partner office. The attendant will assist in the setup of Civic Commons events (including tabling services and onsite workshops), ensuring that visitors have a welcoming experience.
This is a part-time position. The salary for this position is $17.00 per hour for up to a 19-hour workweek.
Responsibilities
Provide directional and informational assistance in connecting visitors with Central Library locations, collections, programs and services
Help schedule and prepare onsite tabling services and workshops
Maintain literature and digital signage content promoting library events and services, partnering organizations, and civic initiatives
Search BPL’s website, Intranet, events calendar and other digital assets to answer visitor questions
Assist with queuing for the passport office, IDNYC and partner offices
Work with Central Administration and Civic Commons tenants to solve problems and connect with other BPL staff as necessary
Qualifications
H.S. diploma or equivalent required
Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
Attention to detail with an ability to multitask and problem solve
Proficiency in Microsoft office and basic Internet search skills
Adhere to dress code policy
Ushering experience a plus
Light physical demands with some lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to a maximum of 20 lbs.
Proficiency in world languages a plus
Must be available to work nights and weekends and be willing to stand for long periods of time
