Position Summary
Seeking a skilled and motivated Machine Builder to assemble, install, and debug custom automation equipment, robotic systems, material handling systems, conveyors, lift tables, and industrial machinery. The Machine Builder plays a critical role in transforming engineering designs into fully functional equipment while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Assembly
- Assemble custom automation equipment from engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
- Install and align mechanical components including:Â
- Conveyors
- Structural steel and aluminum framing
- Pneumatic systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Lift tables and scissor lifts
- Tooling and fixtures
- Robot end-of-arm tooling (EOAT)
- Perform precision fitting, drilling, tapping, grinding, and fabrication modifications as required.
- Install bearings, shafts, motors, gearboxes, sensors, and machine guarding.
Equipment Debug & Testing
- Assist with machine startup, debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Verify proper operation of mechanical systems.
- Work closely with controls engineers during equipment commissioning.
- Identify and resolve assembly issues to improve machine performance and reliability.
Quality & Documentation
- Read and interpret:Â
- Mechanical drawings
- Pneumatic schematics
- Assembly drawings
- Layouts and installation prints
- Ensure assemblies meet quality standards and customer specifications.
- Document build issues and provide feedback to engineering teams.
Installation & Customer Support
- Support machine installation and startup at customer facilities.
- Travel periodically for equipment installation, modifications, and service work.
- Maintain professional interactions with customers during onsite activities.
Safety
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Use proper lifting equipment, tools, and PPE.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of machine building, industrial maintenance, or mechanical assembly experience.
- Ability to read mechanical assembly drawings.
- Experience using common hand and power tools.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred
- Experience with automation equipment or custom machinery.
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Understanding of robotic systems and material handling equipment.
