General Purpose of the Job The Medication Assistant is responsible to provide resident care under supervision of the Director of Residential Services and professional nursing staff by performing a variety of resident care skills on a regular basis, passing medications as ordered and directed and to do related work as required.  II. Job Functions Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position. However, it in no way states or implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or is an essential function of the position.  Specific Duties and Responsibilities    Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADL): Distribute medications according to doctor’s orders and following all procedures, documentation and regulations as trained.   Having an awareness, on every shift, of which residents have been deemed as Independent Administration by their Physician’s Report. Organize and maintain the medication cart. Observe and report changes in resident’s condition immediately to Wellness Coordinator or Skilled Nursing Charge Nurse. Communicate all important information using the Communication Book and Matrix Obtain urine and stool specimens as assigned. Weigh residents as assigned. Perform treatment as ordered in Matrix. Ensure that all residents are at each meal, or are accounted for, if not in the dining room during mealtimes. Assist in changing bedding and/or clothing and other housekeeping services as needed. Assist residents in transporting residents to/from activities within the facility. Assist residents with scheduling physician appointments as needed. Watch for and report any change in resident’s room temperature, ventilation, lighting, etc. Assist in ordering new medications, making changes to current orders, and ordering labs as needed and as ordered by a Physician with nursing oversight.  Send a copy of all laboratory and/or test results to a resident’s Physician immediately, also giving a copy to the Wellness Coordinator for review.  General Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrate Core Values and Non-Negotiable Behaviors as defined by the Artesia Christian Home. Adhere to and implement a person centered, relationship-based approach to working with residents and their families. Assist in providing and maintaining an environment that provides a balance of structure and nurture, while working to engage residents in daily life, encouraging them to be as independent as possible. Complete and maintain training requirements related to dementia care, program philosophy and job description related training. Follow Residents’ Rights and Confidentiality policies at all times. Follow facility safety, emergency & disaster program. Observe infection control procedures. Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook. Attend all in-service training programs and complete Relias trainings as assigned. Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor in a cooperative manner QualificationsIII. Qualifications Must pass a California criminal background clearance. Must possess written and oral communication skills in English. Hold, at minimum, a high school diploma or GED. Experience working with the elderly is preferred. Must be in good physical and mental condition, capable of performing assigned tasks; Good health must be verified by a health screening performed by a licensed physician, including a chest X-ray or intradermal test for TB. Must be able to hear, talk, and have a clear vision with or without corrective lenses. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, push, pull, kneel, and move intermittently during working hours and lift or exert force of up to 50 lbs. Must be able to perform in a busy environment, subject to frequent interruptions, subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and family members, subject to falls, infectious diseases, substances, and odors. Must be willing to work beyond normal working hours, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
