Job Overview
Duties and ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Review, verify, and dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently in accordance with physician orders and applicable regulationsÂ
- Evaluate medication orders for appropriateness, accuracy, drug interactions, allergies, dosing, and therapeutic duplicationsÂ
- Provide pharmaceutical consultation and support to nurses, prescribers, facility staff, patients, and caregivers as appropriateÂ
- Supervise and direct the daily activities of Pharmacy Technician I, II, III, and Intake Coordinator staffÂ
- Delegate responsibilities to pharmacy technicians while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations governing technician dutiesÂ
- Monitor workflow and staffing needs to ensure timely processing and delivery of medicationsÂ
- Support onboarding, training, coaching, and performance development of pharmacy technician staffÂ
- Assist with scheduling, workflow coordination, and operational problem-solving within the pharmacyÂ
- Ensure compliance with all controlled substance regulations, medication storage requirements, and recordkeeping standardsÂ
- Verify and maintain accurate pharmacy documentation, including dispensing records, medication destruction records, and inventory logsÂ
- Participate in medication cart reviews, cycle fill processes, stat order management, and emergency medication servicesÂ
- Assist with inventory management activities including medication ordering oversight, shortage management, expiration monitoring, and recall proceduresÂ
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Board of Pharmacy regulations, DEA requirements, and company policiesÂ
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives, medication safety programs, audits, and continuous process improvement effortsÂ
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environmentÂ
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of PharmacyÂ
- Provide training, coaching, performance feedback, and workflow oversightÂ
- Assist with technician competency evaluations and performance improvement initiativesÂ
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and adherence to pharmacy policies and proceduresÂ
- Serve as pharmacist-on-duty and provide operational leadership in the absence of pharmacy management as assigned
RequirementsÂ
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school of PharmacyÂ
- Current and active Pharmacist license in the State of Colorado in good standingÂ
- Ability to supervise and direct pharmacy technician staff effectivelyÂ
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and medication safety standardsÂ
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and clinical judgmentÂ
- Effective verbal and written communication skillsÂ
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environmentÂ
- Previous long-term care pharmacy experience preferredÂ
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferredÂ
- Experience with pharmacy management systems and automated dispensing technology preferredÂ
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party billing processes preferredÂ
