Description of Work

The Chief Medical Officer (Medical Director I) at JFK ADATC oversees the Medical (Psychiatry and Primary Care) and Pharmacy Departments. The physician provides clinical leadership by supervising psychiatrists, the Primary Care Medical Director, the Pharmacy Director, and Advance Practice Providers. Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality patient care, consulting on complex cases, and delivering direct care when needed. The role includes managing medical staffing, recruitment, credentialing, privileging, and performance evaluations. The physician also helps develop and implement facility policies, coordinates interdepartmental functions, participates in leadership meetings, and represents the facility in the broader Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities through performance reporting, committees, and workgroups.

Salary Range: $170,121.00 - $340,243.00

Recruitment Range: $163,783.00 - $310,000.00

This Position Is Exempt And Is EXEMPT From Certain Provisions Of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126)

*Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus 
To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate.

An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:

  • The employee has held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date)
  •  The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency
  •  DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.

About the Facility:

JFK is a 68-bed inpatient treatment facility designed to meet the needs of adults with substance use disorders from the 44 westernmost counties in North Carolina. The facility treats individuals with substance abuse and psychiatric diagnoses. JFK is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations as a Behavioral Health facility and certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

Minimum Education and Experience

Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina and three years of experience including two years in health services delivery management.

Management Preferences:

  •  Board Certification in Addiction Psychiatry
  • Board Certification in Addiction Medicine through American Board of Preventive Medicine (if not Board Certified in Addiction Psychiatry)
  • Five years of direct patient care in addiction psychiatry with at least 3 years primarily in an inpatient setting and at least one year working within an Opioid Treatment Program.
