We are currently hiring for a Machine Operator II at our Ashland, VA location. The Machine Operator II independently performs manufacturing operations in accordance with job card and engineering drawing requirements to produce quality parts. This role requires a higher degree of technical proficiency, independent judgment, and ownership of quality outcomes compared to Machine Operator I. The MO II is expected to solve routine process problems without supervision and train entry-level operators.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Independently set up, operate, and adjust machinery and tooling to meet job card and engineering drawing requirements with minimal supervision.
- Perform and document routine and preventive maintenance checks; identify early signs of equipment wear or failure and escalate proactively.
- Monitor production processes for quality and efficiency; make real-time adjustments to process parameters to maintain output within specification.
- Interpret and apply complex engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and multi-step job card requirements accurately.
- Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.); document results and take corrective action when out-of-tolerance conditions arise.
- Record accurate production data in the ERP system, including good parts, scrap, rework, and downtime; flag anomalies for supervisor review.
- Troubleshoot routine process and equipment issues; apply root-cause thinking to reduce recurring defects and downtime.
- Support and train Machine Operator I staff; share best practices and reinforce QMS and safety protocols on the floor.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with 5S standards and all safety requirements.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications / Training
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical trade certification or post-secondary training in manufacturing preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of manufacturing or machine operation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and inspection tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards; ability to identify non-conformances and take corrective action.
- Effective problem-solving skills; able to diagnose routine process issues and implement solutions independently.
- Reliable, self-directed work ethic with the ability to manage priorities and maintain output quality under production pressure.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to document findings clearly in production ERP system (i.e. MOM).
- Polymerics Role Matrix: Skill level assessment of 51%–75%.
Certifications: None required. Relevant certifications in quality inspection, machine operation, or workplace safety (e.g., forklift, WHMIS) are an asset.
Work Environment: Manufacturing / warehouse
Physical Demands: Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and lift materials or components (up to 50+ lbs.).
