Athens Orthopedic is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to be assigned to our ambulatory surgery center (ASC) in Athens.
Hours of operation are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM; flexibility to work beyond scheduled hours may be required based on surgical volume.Â

Position Summary:
The Central Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment used in orthopedic procedures. This role ensures all instruments are processed in accordance with infection control standards to support safe, efficient surgical operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Decontaminate surgical instruments and equipment following established infection control guidelinesÂ
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and damage; remove and replace defective itemsÂ
- Assemble instrument trays and sets specific to orthopedic procedures (e.g., joint replacements, arthroscopy)Â
- Operate sterilization equipment including steam autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners, and washer-disinfectorsÂ
- Monitor and document sterilization processes, including biological and chemical indicatorsÂ
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization loads and tracking systemsÂ
- Ensure proper storage and distribution of sterile instruments and suppliesÂ
- Maintain inventory levels of instruments, implants, and sterile supplies; notify leadership of shortagesÂ
- Adhere to all OSHA, CDC, and facility policies regarding infection prevention and safetyÂ
- Collaborate with surgical staff to ensure case readiness and timely turnover of operating roomsÂ
- Assist with cleaning and maintenance of sterile processing equipment and work areasÂ

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent requiredÂ
- Certification as a Central Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST or equivalent) preferred or required within a specified timeframeÂ
- Prior experience in sterile processing, preferably in an orthopedic or surgical settingÂ
- Knowledge of orthopedic instrumentation and implants strongly preferredÂ
- Understanding of sterilization techniques, infection control, and aseptic practicesÂ
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detailÂ

- Manual dexterity for handling instruments and assembling traysÂ
- Ability to work in a temperature-variable environment (decontamination and sterile areas)Â

- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
