Job Description:

 

Aerojet Rocketdyne, an L3Harris Segment, is seeking a Machinist B to work at our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL. This is a unique opportunity to work at our inert manufacturing facility for fabrication and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  • Produce parts, components and final assemblies using composite fabrication, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, re-work, quality testing, and assembly utilizing detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, layouts or manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
  • Operation of various machinery and shop equipment which may include but not be limited to ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods and automated welding equipment.
  • Fabrication and assembly of piece parts into completed sub-assembly using assembly tools.
  • Machining of sand mandrels.
  • Facilitate and conduct OJT training of technicians as required.
  • Works with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
  • Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
  • Troubleshoot processes and identify, modify and/or escalate out of control processes and production escapes.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, supervision and/or engineers in the set-up and calibration of equipment.
  • Set up of tools to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Follow all L3Harris Quality and Manufacturing Policies.
  • Fabricate new build parts from engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Rework or modify of mechanical parts as requested by engineering or production.
  • Design of fixtures and tooling needed to fabricate parts.
  • Maintain work area and machine shop to 5S + 1 standards.
  • Participate in preventative maintenance activities.
  • Capable of working closely with subject matter experts and following verbal and detailed directions.
  • Clean machines, equipment, and work area according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.

 

Preferred Skills:

 

  • Ability to read and edit G and M codes.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators).
  • High level of initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
