Job Description Summary

The Sr. Mechanical Reliability Engineer plays a key role in implementing Reliability strategy at the Huntsville Site. This role reports to the Site Facilities Engineering Manager in a new PSM-covered plant and will facilitate RCM studies to develop and implement asset strategies to increase equipment availability and drive OEE improvement. The Sr. Mechanical Reliability Engineer will support production, maintenance, and capital projects while acting as a mentor and subject matter expert for Reliability processes. Practical knowledge of reliability processes (RCFA, FMEA, LCCA) and predictive technologies (ultrasound, vibration analysis, thermography).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Reliability Strategy & RCM Deployment

  • Lead sustainableĀ RCM implementationĀ across the site and own the deployment of reliability strategies to meet or exceed compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Define and maintainĀ asset strategiesĀ and reliability standards that align with plant performance goals

Predictive & Preventive Maintenance

  • Evaluate and applyĀ predictive maintenance (PdM) technologiesĀ (e.g., vibration, ultrasound, thermography) to monitor asset health
  • Analyze equipment performance usingĀ Pareto methodsĀ to prioritize work activities and resource allocation
  • Develop and refineĀ preventive maintenance (PM) work proceduresĀ to be executed by maintenance technicians

Reliability Support for Plant Changes & Projects

  • SupportĀ Management of Change (MOC)Ā activities from a reliability perspective, ensuring long-term asset performance and risk mitigation
  • Partner withĀ Capital Project EngineeringĀ to define specifications andĀ reliability/maintainability standardsĀ for new and modified equipment

Root Cause Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Lead and/or participate inĀ Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA)Ā andĀ Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)Ā teams
  • ProvideĀ troubleshooting supportĀ and technical assistance for unusual, chronic, or high-impact equipment problems
  • Work with Reliability Specialists and Maintenance Technicians to address deviations in equipment performance and implement corrective actions

Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement

  • Collect and analyzeĀ reliability data, maintenance costs, and failure historiesĀ to identify trends, bad actors, and improvement opportunities
  • Use insights from data to driveĀ continuous improvement initiatives, cost reductions, and increased equipment uptime

Coaching, Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • ActivelyĀ coach and mentorĀ others to build reliability knowledge, facilitate learning, and prevent repeat failures
  • Effectively communicate withĀ Operations, Maintenance, and EngineeringĀ on reliability strategies, plant performance measures, and asset objectives
  • Influence cross-functional teams without direct authority to drive adherence to reliability best practices

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a related technical field
  • OR a high school diploma/GED with aĀ minimum of 4 years of reliability experienceĀ in a chemical manufacturing site

Experience

  • OverallĀ minimum of 5 years of reliability experienceĀ in a chemical manufacturing site

Desired Characteristics

Technical & Reliability Expertise

  • Practical knowledge ofĀ reliability processesĀ such as RCFA, FMEA, and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)
  • Hands-on experience withĀ predictive technologiesĀ including ultrasound, vibration analysis, and thermography
  • Experience withĀ CMMS systemsĀ and maintenance work management processes
  • CMRP or CRL certificationĀ strongly preferred

Experience & Industry Background

  • 10–15 years of reliability experienceĀ in a chemical manufacturing environment is highly desired
  • Familiarity withĀ highly regulated, process-intensive operations
