Job Description:

Under general supervision, coordinates and performs inspections for compliance with policy, procedures, state and federal regulations and standards to ensure safety, environmental health, safety, and/or compliance.

Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission is seeking to hire a Watershed Technician. The selected candidate will be responsible for site visits and inspections of watershed dams across the state of Georgia.

The position will be located in Athens-Clarke or Gordon County.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Attending and presenting at public Soil and Water Conservation District Meetings
  • Maintaining written and verbal communication with district representatives, regarding dams located within their area
  • Conducting site visits, completing inspections, and generating reports for watershed dams
  • Assisting with the organization and recording of documents maintained for watershed dams
  • Assisting Project Managers with the oversight of construction and maintenance projects
  • Maintaining effective communication within the agency and property owners
  • Maintaining invoices and contract information
  • Working with other state agencies to achieve the goals and requirements of the Watershed Dam Program.
  • Must have/obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Other duties as assigned

  

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Windows Office Suites.
  • Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS Suite, Google Earth, GIS software
  • Drone pilot certification

Physical Demands:

  • Intermittent periods of walking, driving, squatting
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Climbing earthen embankments
  • Water exposure
  • Exposure the outdoor elements for extended periods of time
  • Long travel days-limited overnight travel

NOTE: A background checks will be conducted on final candidates.  Hiring of applicants is contingent upon satisfactory results of employment verification, background and criminal records investigations and motor vehicle reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma/GED and two (2) years of job-related experience; or one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Safety & Complnc Spec 1 (RCP010) or position equivalent.--Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.--Note: Some positions may require certification and/or licensure.
