Most importantly, Sacred Heart is a place of purpose and community, where employees can engage beyond their primary roles and contribute to an environment focused on growth, learning, and developing future leaders.   Position Title:                     Prep Science Teacher - Physics                                                       Department:                        Prep Reports To:                         Principal of the Preparatory FLSA Classification:          Exempt FTE (Full-Time Equivalent):             100%; the typical school day is 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Schedule of Duties:           10-Month Salary:                                 $82,000- $173,502 annually (at 100%FTE) depending upon level of education and experience Position Purpose:              The Science Teacher prepares curriculum and teaches Science to high school students grades 9-12.   Specific Expectations for Prep Faculty: In addition to regular teaching and duties, the following duties and responsibilities are expected as part of the faculty workload: chaperoning, community responsibilities, professional development and trainings, classroom substitution, holding office hours, proctoring exams, admission interviews, and attendance of, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events (e.g. Director’s Day, open houses, Schools’ annual auction), as required and directed by your supervisor. All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law and SHS policy.   Essential Functions Teaches Science (physics and at least one other science discipline) successfully to high school students. Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and student resources. Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records. Evaluates student work and provides meaningful feedback to guide learning / growth. Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students. Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction. Uses effective class management techniques to ensure effective learning. Contributes actively to build a vibrant educator learning culture. Collaborates with colleagues to develop and renew curriculum and other school programs, including contributing positively to team that co-creates shared curriculum and assessments across sections of a course. Maintains expertise in subject matter and pedagogy through professional development. Other duties as assigned.   Qualifications BA degree in Education, Science or relevant field and three years of relevant teaching experience. Prior experience working in an independent/Catholic school environment and/or Master’s degree in a relevant field and /or teaching credential in appropriate subject matter strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to teach physics at all levels (including introductory physics, honors physics, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics C). Demonstrated ability to teach 9-12 high school-level science course(s) in at least one other discipline within their subject area. A strong understanding of and commitment to pedagogy aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards. Demonstrated ability to teach adolescents with joy and verve with a commitment to equity and inclusion. Demonstrated ability to integrate innovative technology to support student learning. Demonstrated ability to support all learners, including those with an identified learning difference or disability. Obvious passion for Science and fostering that passion in adolescents. Willingness to adapt to an existing curriculum as well as contribute ideas to enhance the respective academic and other school programs. A broad knowledge of and experience with current best practices in curriculum and instruction, especially standards-based learning Excellent verbal and written skills in English, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills. Additional skills in Spanish are valued and preferred. A clear commitment to the educational philosophy of the school as articulated in the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools and professional behavior based on it.   Physical Requirements and Work Environment Works in an often highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts. Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality. May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time. Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment and intermittently in outside weather conditions, including heat and cold typical to the Mid-Peninsula in the Bay Area. Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. and regularly travel safely and comfortably over a 63 acre campus Available and willing to attend and work some evenings/weekends and on occasional overnight trips.
