About the Role:

The Accounting Manager will oversee and manage the full spectrum of accounting functions within a civil engineering firm, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with industry standards. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of financial data through meticulous bank reconciliations, job costing, and general ledger management. The Accounting Manager will lead the accounting team to execute full cycle accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, while ensuring adherence to established accounting principles. They will collaborate closely with project managers and executives to provide insightful financial analysis that supports strategic decision-making and project profitability. Ultimately, this position ensures the company’s financial health is accurately represented and supports sustainable growth within the construction industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and full cycle accounting processes.
• Proficiency in accounting systems and software relevant to construction accounting.
• Demonstrated experience with bank reconciliations, job costing, and general ledger management.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation.
• Experience working within the construction industry or a related field.
• Familiarity with advanced construction accounting software, ERP systems, Ajera Program
• Strong analytical skills with experience in financial forecasting and budgeting.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, balance sheet, and bank reconciliations.
• Perform detailed job costing and cost accounting to track project expenses and profitability accurately.
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements specific to the construction industry.
• Lead and mentor the accounting team to maintain high standards of accuracy and efficiency in financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management review.
• Coordinate with project managers to align financial data with project budgets and timelines.
• Implement and maintain accounting systems and processes to improve workflow and data integrity.
• Support audit processes and liaise with external auditors as necessary.

Skills:

The Accounting Manager will utilize bank reconciliation skills daily to ensure all cash transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are resolved promptly. Proficiency in accounting systems enables efficient management of the general ledger and streamlines full cycle accounting processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Job costing and cost accounting skills are critical for tracking project expenses and assessing profitability, which directly impacts strategic decision-making. A deep understanding of accounting principles guides compliance and audit readiness, maintaining the company’s financial integrity. Leadership and communication skills are essential for managing the accounting team, coordinating with project managers, and presenting financial insights to senior management.
