The Atlanta Downtown Improvement District Inc. (ADID) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation funded through a Community Improvement District within which commercial property owners pay special assessments and is governed by a Board of Directors of nine private-and public-sector leaders. ADID strives to create a clean, safe, hospitable, and vibrant environment for Downtown Atlanta.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a dynamic and courteous Downtown Ambassador to join our team at the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District, Inc. (ADID). As a crucial link between hospitality and public safety, you will be the eyes, ears, and voice of Atlanta Downtown, interacting with diverse stakeholders including business owners, residents, law enforcement, visitors, and workers. Your role involves maintaining a safe and welcoming atmosphere for everyone in The District. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Patrol Responsibilities:
    • Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle, or trike, adapting to changing routes and schedules daily.
    • Make frequent stops to observe and investigate activities within the immediate and adjacent areas, working in all weather and terrain conditions.
  2. Communication:
    • Communicate conditions via radio, written reports, and other means to proper authorities.
    • Project a professional authoritative presence to assure the general public that their safety within the District is of paramount importance.
  3. Knowledge and Information Dissemination:
    • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of streets, building access points, attractions, and transportation systems within the ADID.
    • Possess interpersonal skills to communicate information clearly to visitors.
  4. Public Safety:
    • Remain vigilant to guard against illegal activities such as solicitation, urban camping, and vagrancy in the District.
    • Act promptly and decisively to report such activities to designated authorities and remove influences from the District without the use of force.
  1. Hospitality:
    • Welcome and engaging personality demonstrating a friendly demeanor to create a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Radiate enthusiasm and professionalism in all interactions with visitors and stakeholders.
  • Anticipate the needs of visitors and stakeholders to provide proactive assistance.
  • Be well-versed in the local area to guide and support guests effectively.
  • Approach inquiries and complaints with empathy and understanding.
  • Maintain a positive and solution-oriented attitude to enhance the overall experience for stakeholders.
  1. Collaboration:
    • Establish a close working relationship with off-duty and on-duty APD officers within the District.
    • Support the activities of APD officers as requested or directed.
  2. Emergency Response:
    • Provide public safety support in crisis situations within the District until governmental public safety entities can respond.
    • Assist with CPR, first aid, limited traffic direction, crowd control, fire suppression, etc.
  3. Additional Responsibilities:
    • Provide escort services on request.
    • Provide direction and crowd control during high-rise evacuations/fire drills.
    • Maintain a daily ongoing relationship with area property managers, security, and hospitality staff.
    • Keep a current and complete daily log of activities.
  4. Miscellaneous:
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to persuasively influence the behavior of individuals with diverse cultural backgrounds, language fluency difficulties, suspected limited capacity, and those demonstrating irrational behavior or a tendency toward violence.
  • Progressive and stable work history.
  • Passion for contributing to the vibrancy and growth of Downtown Atlanta.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and substance use testing.
  • Knowledge of basic emergency response procedures.
  • Physical fitness and ability to patrol on a bicycle or Trikke.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKS ENVIRONMENT 

This job requires the employee to fulfill certain physical tasks to perform their essential job functions successfully. If needed, ADID will provide reasonable accommodation for individuals with disabilities.  

The employee will need to:  

  • Work outdoors during periods of extreme temperatures. 
  • Regularly communicate through talking and hearing. 
  • Frequently standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with their hands and arms.   
  • Lift and move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. 
  • Have good close and distance vision, along with the ability to adjust focus. 
  • Work in an environment with moderate noise levels. 
  • Ability to ride a bicycle, Trikke or Segway intermittently for up to 15 miles daily, climbing, and descending hills in an urban environment, while wearing all assigned uniform and support equipment properly.
  • Maintain a professional and even-tempered demeanor while responding to any kind of stressful situation that might arise in the District.

 

POSITION CLASSIFICATION (this is not a remote position)  

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site in-person, non-exempt position.    

ADID offers competitive compensation, along with a comprehensive benefits package, including personal time off (PTO), health and dental insurance, short-term disability coverage, a mass transit benefit, and a 401(k) savings program.  Eligible employees may also receive discretionary performance-based bonus pay.

The Ambassador role requires, successful completion of the ADID Ambassador Training Program, which includes: 

  • Completion of Trikke, and Bicycle Operator’s Training
  • Crisis Intervention Training.
  • AED, and CPR certifications.
