About This Role
Responsible for the daily care, monitoring, husbandry, and support to the well-being of animals in the vivarium. Collaborates with animal care and
veterinary staff to ensure animal care is in accordance with study protocol.

What You’ll Do

Observe animals’ appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, distress, and discontent.
Document and promptly report observations to ensure the safety of the animals and no negative impact to the clinical study.
Immediately notify veterinarians of abnormalities.
Maintain records and enter data into computer.
Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the vivarium.
Update and maintain inventory of food and animal care supplies.
Follow and understand standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations regarding animal and human safety in the vivarium.
Follow verbal and written instructions regarding the care of animals and maintenance of the vivarium.
Ensure use of the proper size cage for animals maintain cage cards on all animal cages.
Provide the daily care of animals including feeding, providing water, enrichment, medicating, cleaning and sanitizing animal enclosures and animal areas.
Assist with performing activities to meet the behavioral and enrichment needs of animals including, but not limited to, behavioral assessments and socialization.
Assist with the maintenance of inventory of animal food, cleaning supplies, various chemicals, and other animal care supplies.
Maintain animal room equipment in working condition, report needs to team lead.
Operate and clean all animal care equipment.
Handle and restrain animals in preparation for transport to surgical and/or imaging procedures.
May assist with euthanizing animals and handling the disposal of moribund or dead animals.
Provide support for post-operative care of animals.
May assist with preparing animals for transport and receipt.
May perform subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (SOAP) format post operative exams.

Required Qualifications

Basic understanding of safety protocols for clinical environment and animal care.
Basic knowledge of sanitation and environmental guidelines, regulations, and study needs.
Knowledge of subjective, objective, assessment, and plan (SOAP) notes and the ability to document post operative exams in this format.
Good attention to detail and strong observation skills.
Good computer skills.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to safely handle and properly restrain laboratory animals.
Ability to administer routine treatments with guidance.
Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action when needed.

This is an onsite position in Atlanta, Georgia
