Salary range: $40, 945 - $51,181

General Description and Classification Standards:

Performs general maintenance tasks in support of a wide variety of operations, building maintenance, and other related projects for the Department of Watershed Management. Duties include but are not limited to performing janitorial and maintenance of buildings, performing fencing/gate repairs, minor electrical, plumbing, landscaping & grounds maintenance and performing additional tasks as assigned.  Operation of light equipment based upon training, skills, and demonstration.

Supervision Received:

Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks usually as part of a work crew.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Consistent daily work attendance (on time & prepared for work).
  • Completes assigned work orders in an efficient/effective manner; works with supervisor to prioritize work orders; works in a safe and organized manner to ensure safety for self, team, and the public.      Enter detailed notes, comments, and labor of all work assignments in Maximo or other computerized support system (if applicable)
  • Assists & supports plant operations by performing general cleanup, repair, & preventative maintenance tasks, including but not limited to, fencing, janitorial, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks for buildings, maintaining cleanliness and general readiness. 
  • Performs landscape & general maintenance tasks for grounds and other DWM properties, including the removal of fallen tree limbs and debris; mowing the grass; sweeping the sidewalks; drain grates etc. (seasonal - as needed)
  • Perform pressure washing, facility sweeps, scrubbing, mopping and trash removal of buildings.
  • Install, repair, and remove fencing.
  • Perform minor repair on automated gates.
  • Paints and repairs walls and to include drywall, wallpaper.
  • Moves, repairs, assembles of furniture, hang TVs, and other office or outdoor equipment.
  • Follows all safety precautions necessary in operating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Maintains a safe and organized work area; performs pre-trip and post-trip equipment/vehicle inspections; stores tools; collects scraps and leftover materials; blows debris from sidewalks and ensures equipment/vehicle deficiencies are noted and taken to maintenance shop for repairs.
  • Complete all required trainings by specified deadline.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Skill in maintenance of tools and equipment.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work. 
  • Ability to perform maintenance activities involving skills in the functional fields to which assigned. 
  • Ability to work beyond normal working hours, as required. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).

  • Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license.

  • Two (2) years of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other related experience

 

Preferred Experience

  • 3 years of experience in construction/building maintenance (fencing repairs, grounds, electrical plumbing, or related field.)

Work Environment: Construction/Maintenance Worker II’s work across various areas of the facility, including mechanical rooms, office spaces, exterior grounds, and utility areas. The role involves exposure to noise, dust, varying temperatures, and occasional work at heights or in confined spaces. Construction/Maintenance Worker II’s routinely use hand and power tools and may be required to lift or move materials. Work hours are typically standard, but flexibility is needed for emergency repairs or scheduled maintenance.

Work Schedule: This is a mission-critical position. The standard work schedule is:

Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Lifting Requirements: 

Medium work

This position may require moderate physical activity, including:

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 21–50 pounds of materials, tools, or equipment.
  • Using power tools, mechanical equipment, and building systems that require physical force or sustained use.
  • Performing repairs that involve kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and working overhead.
  • Standing or walking for extended periods, often in mechanical rooms, utility areas, or outdoor conditions.
  • Handling tasks that involve moving equipment, removing debris, replacing components, or assisting with emergency repairs.

Medium work may also include responding to maintenance issues that require physical endurance and the ability to navigate tight spaces or elevated work areas.
