JOB SUMMARYĀ 

The Financial Analyst will provide budgeting and analytical support to Southern Company Services (SCS) organizations and Southern Company affiliates by ensuring the timely and accurate review of financial transactions and the reporting of those transactions to various levels of management. 

This position will coordinate timely, accurate data gathering and analysis for periodic cost projections across supported organizations and projects. The analyst will provide counsel and planning support to management based on analysis findings, help the organization meet corporate and business unit goals, and maintain effective relationships and communication within SCS Budgeting and Reporting and with clients. The position will play a key role in the implementation of a Technology Financial Management (TFM) framework to strengthen TO Budget processes and reporting capabilities.

Major ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • Develop and communicate budgets and financial reporting for the SCS Departments and Major Projects ability to analyze data and effectively communicate SCS Business Unit financial statusĀ 
  • Optimize technology financials through implementation of a Technology Financial Management (TFM) Framework Ā 
  • Coordinate annual budget preparation and communicationsĀ 
  • Prepare and communicate monthly variance reporting and comprehensive analysis for budget, actual, and projection informationĀ 
  • Provide guidance to managers regarding GAAP and Southern Company accounting policiesĀ 
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and make recommendations regarding needed changes and efficiency improvementsĀ 
  • Provide guidance on accounting policies and activities to non-financial managersĀ 
  • Consolidate reporting for roll up and management reporting for both SCS Departments and Major ProjectsĀ 
  • Gather data and analyze periodic cost projections and budget dataĀ 
  • Participate in special projects by gathering information and providing analysisĀ 
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships and communications with business unit and project managersĀ 
  • Strong organization skills are a mustĀ

Job Requirements:Ā 

  • Must have 1-4 years’ experience as a Financial Analyst requiredĀ 

EducationĀ 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting , Finance, or Technology/ Engineering
  • MBA or Masters’ degree in Accounting preferredĀ 

ExperienceĀ 

  • Previous experience in accounting, finance, technology, or business administration preferred
  • Technology and/or Utility accounting experience is preferredĀ 
  • Experience in accounting, cost management and reportingĀ 
  • Demonstrated experience with Oracle Cloud ERP, OACS, Oracle Planning, and PowerPlan is preferred Strong experience in Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) highly desiredĀ 
  • Capital and O&M budgeting experience desiredĀ 
  • Project Cost tracking experience desiredĀ 
  • Experience coordinating multiple business unit requests and ensure goals and objectives are met. Utility experience a plusĀ 

Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesĀ 

  • Detail-oriented with strong initiative-taking critical thinking skills, and excellent follow through Proficient analytical and problem-solving skillsĀ 
  • Demonstrate organizational and planning skillsĀ 
  • Knowledge of utility and regulatory accounting (SEC, FERC, and GAAP) desiredĀ 
  • Knowledge of data management and retrieval techniques with strong technical skillsĀ 
  • Conceptual thinker and ability to quickly understand our Accounting System, POET Codes and be able to understand and report cost driversĀ 
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a changing environmentĀ 
  • Ability to coordinate activities of multiple people and pull the end result together as one deliverable Ability to pull disparate pieces of information together to form one consolidated and concise report Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with accounting, auditing, various non-financial functional areas, and varying levels of staff and managementĀ 
  • Ability to operate in a matrix organization and communicate clearly with people at various levels including upper managementĀ 
  • Effective oral and written communication skillsĀ 
  • Demonstrate personal ownership and initiativeĀ 
  • Anticipate and proactively communicate financial impacts of business unit decisions Demonstrate sound business judgment in decision makingĀ 
  • Exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPointĀ 
  • Other attributes include proactive, team player, and strategic thinker Knowledge of Enterprise Foundations principles preferredĀ 
  • Understanding various views of SCS data and ability to translate and communicate appropriately to various audiencesĀ 
  • Thorough understanding of techniques and methods for accounting, budgeting, cost tracking, financial projections, and interrelationships with affiliate accounting and budgeting functionsĀ
