SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – TREASURY & REVENUE ADMINISTRATION

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant – Treasury & Revenue Administration is a key leader within the Business and Finance Team and serves as a collaborative partner in achieving institutional goals and objectives. This role is responsible for managing cash receipt processes, treasury operations, grant accounting activities, and revenue-related financial operations. The position oversees daily cash management, banking activities, liquidity monitoring, grant compliance, and revenue accounting functions while ensuring timely and accurate transaction recording and financial reporting.

This role serves as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders, financial institutions, and student organizations, providing guidance and financial support. The Senior Accountant demonstrates a strong commitment to service excellence while ensuring effective administrative and financial stewardship of institutional resources.

JOB DUTIES

The Senior Accountant must perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Treasury Management

  • Monitor daily cash balances and liquidity across all bank accounts to ensure adequate funding for operational needs
  • Prepare and maintain short-term cash flow forecasts to support institutional planning and decision-making
  • Initiate, review, and monitor electronic funds transfers, ACH transactions, wire transfers, and other treasury-related banking activities in accordance with established internal controls
  • Prepare treasury-related reports and analyses for the Controller and senior leadership as needed
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable, Payroll, Student Accounts, and other departments to ensure accurate cash planning and cash disbursement activities
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and internal controls over cash receipts, cash disbursements, and banking activities
  • Assist with annual audits and regulatory reporting related to cash, banking, and treasury activities

Cash Receipts

  • Record and reconcile all cash receipts accurately and in a timely manner
  • Process and document deposit transactions in accordance with established procedures
  • Record electronic and bank deposit activity, ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Apply accounts receivable payments to the appropriate customer accounts
  • Reconcile daily payment platform activity and ensure proper recording
  • Monitor and record inter-account transfers to maintain accurate cash balances

Grant Accounting

  • Prepare and submit grant drawdown requests in accordance with grant requirements
  • Record grant drawdowns accurately in the general ledger
  • Maintain and reconcile grant receivable schedules
  • Prepare and support grant reporting requirements
  • Monitor grant budgets to ensure compliance and proper utilization of funds

Month-End Close Support

  • Prepare and record journal entries in support of the month-end close process
  • Record and reconcile various account activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with established close schedules and internal controls

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and CFO

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE

The Senior Accountant must display the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting required from an accredited institution
  • Must have at least five (5) years of experience in general ledger accounting
  • MBA or CPA preferred but not required
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel required)
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with all management levels within the Institution as well as key individuals in other organizations/agencies to provide maximum support to students, faculty, and others being served by the Institution
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, general business programs, policies, and procedures is required to ensure effective/efficient use and distribution of financial and other resources
  • Knowledge, understanding, and business application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to respond effectively to numerous and varied situations, analyze issues, and respond quickly and correctly to resolve problems and support the needs of students, faculty, staff, and others on the Institution
  • Must be a "team player" with the desire to promote the entire Institution and all its programs through energetic and effective coordination with applicable Institution departments and appropriate external organizations and agencies
  • Excellent listening skills and trained abilities to adapt to a dynamic environment and progressive organization

JOB TYPE

Full-time, 40 hours per week minimum. Working hours will occasionally include evenings and weekends during peak periods, including monthly closeouts, registration, and audit season.
