We are seeking an experienced and dependable Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey crews in the collection of accurate and reliable data for a variety of land development and infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for overseeing daily field operations, ensuring data quality, and maintaining safety standards. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge of surveying practices, leadership experience, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage survey field crews on a variety of projects, including boundary, topographic, and construction staking
  • Operate and oversee the use of survey equipment, including GPS, total stations, and data collectors
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of field data collection
  • Interpret plans, plats, and construction documents for field layout
  • Coordinate daily activities with project managers and office staff
  • Maintain field notes, logs, and documentation in accordance with company standards
  • Perform routine equipment checks and ensure proper maintenance
  • Work in Atlanta and Travel to projects around the United States
  • Precise field note keeping and documentation skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma/ GED required
  • Technical training or coursework in surveying preferred
  • 3–5+ years of experience in land surveying, with leadership experience preferred
  • Proficiency with survey equipment (GPS, robotic total stations, data collectors)
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles, field procedures, and data collection methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and legal descriptions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and occasional out-of-town assignments as needed
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of environments and weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 75 pounds over uneven or rough ground
  • May need to walk, stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods
  • May need to clear vegetation, dig holes, and drive stakes using hand tools
  • Must be able to perform the physical tasks required to carry out the essential duties of the position safely and effectively

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.

US Pay Range
$28—$35 USD

Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefit package including access to our company-sponsored Medical (including an HSA High Deductible option), Dental, Vision, FSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. We also offer 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401(k) plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees receive paid vacation and sick time, 11 paid holidays, and are able to participate in employee ownership options. MacKay pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual performance bonuses.

Employment requires passing a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
