 General Description and Classification Standards:
Performs semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance work in support of a wide variety of water and wastewater system operations, building maintenance, and other related activities. Operates hand and power tools, light to medium construction equipment, test and measurement equipment, etc. Generally works as part of a team but may work independently or lead a team in standard construction or maintenance. Work performed is at an experienced level. Work is performed frequently in cooperation with skilled trade employees, experienced equipment operators, technicians, or supervisors.
Supervision Received
Works under direct supervision and follows standardized procedures and written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks; may assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associates, apprentices, or semi-skilled employees in the group.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Completes assigned work orders efficiently and effectively; works with supervisor to prioritize work orders; works in a safe and organized manner to ensure safety for self, team, and the public, and to complete assignments correctly and on time.Â
Enter detailed notes, comments, and labor of all work assignments in the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Transports by-products removed from the wastewater stream to the landfill for disposal via roll-off container or dump truck, i.e. grit, screenings, and sludge. Performs pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections. Ensures equipment deficiencies are noted and taken to the maintenance shop for repairs.
Assist the plant maintenance crew with installs, tests, calibrations, scheduled maintenance, and repairs to wastewater plant/process control equipment, instrumentation, monitoring equipment, electrical switchgear, and related systems.
Assist and support plant operations by performing general clean-up and preventive maintenance. i.e. hosing clarifier weirs and filters to remove algae. Perform pressure washing, sweeping, scrubbing, and mopping of buildings and container staging areas. Ensures storm water drains and catch basins are free of debris.
May go to work areas to determine if specific work has been completed by a contractor.
Checks pumping stations; checks on equipment, records the daily water flow of the plant, performs daily chemical checks, and prepares samples for lab.
Maintains a safe and organized work area; stores tools; collects scrap and leftover materials; blows debris from sidewalks.

Selects from multiple standardized procedures, written instructions and methods to accomplish assigned tasks.
Leadership Provided
Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less-experienced staff. May lead or instruct less experienced workers in standard construction or maintenance activities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Level II Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
2 years of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other related experience.
Level II Preferred Education & Experience
Completion of a Technical or Vocational course of study in the appropriate area and 2 years of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other relevant experience.
Level II Licensures and Certifications
CDL License Class B Required.
Class III Wastewater Operator License is desirable.
Level I Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
1 year of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other related experience.
Level I Preferred Education & Experience
Completion of a Technical or Vocational course of study in the appropriate area and 1 year of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other relevant experience.
Level I Licensures and Certifications
None Required.
Class III Wastewater Operator License is desirable.
Trainee Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
No years of experience required.Â
Trainee Preferred Education & Experience
Completion of a Technical or Vocational course of study in the appropriate area and no years' of related experience in public works, street construction and repair, water and wastewater system operation, building maintenance, or other relevant experience.
