Certification Summary
- Georgia Board of Dentistry dental hygienist license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Familiarity with standard pediatric dental and orthodontic procedures and techniques
Job Responsibilities
- Delivers competent patient care to patients from newborn to 21 years of age through preventive dental education and treatment, nutritional and dietary education, and emotional security.
- Provides for the gingival and oral health of the patient by removing plaque and calcareous deposits from teeth and performing necessary dental x-rays.
- Assists pediatric dentist and orthodontist as needed.
- Maintains relationship and communicates with patient and family to identify needs for service, follow-up, and referral.
- Maintains hygiene instruments in good working condition.
- Assists in maintenance of dental equipment, instruments, operators, x-ray processor, sterilization equipment/procedures, lab, and dark room.
- Supports and participates in the continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services.
- Demonstrates competent patient care, integrating infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, body mechanics, and knowledge of growth and development.
- Demonstrates and practices family-centered care.
- Maintains a therapeutic relationship with patient and family.
- Communicates relevant information at the patient/family level of understanding.
- Identifies patient/family need for services from ancillary departments and provides follow-up and referral as necessary.
- Documents treatment and review, e.g., medical history.
- Clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, but has the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and will have competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, e.g., N Neonate less than 30 days, I Infant 30 days to 1-year, EC Early Childhood 1-5 years, LC Late Childhood 5-13 years, Â AÂ Adolescent 13-17 years, ADÂ Adult, and ALL is all ages.
