Job Description
Experience
- Minimum of 5+ years hospital Inpatient auditing experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree in Health Information Management or related field
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
Certification Summary
Minimum of one of the following:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
- Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advance knowledge of classification and reimbursement systems (e.g., ICD-10 CM, ICD-10 PCS, diagnosis-related groups e.g. MS-DRG, APR-DRG, Tricare DRG)
- Advance knowledge of ICD-10 CM, ICD-10 PCS coding, and reporting
- Strong analytical, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills
- 3M CAC, and EPIC experience
Job Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to ensure that DRG assignments accurately reflect the diagnoses/procedures documented in the clinical record.
- Prepares a report of findings for each audit along with an action plan.
- Records and monitors corrections to the bill.
- Assists in designing continued education to address deficiencies.
- Plans and organizes work assignments to complete audits in an efficient manner.
- Clearly documents information to support findings and conclusions.
- Keeps appropriate management personnel informed of any problems or unusual circumstances on a timely basis.
- Facilitates improvement in the overall quality and completeness of medical records documentation.
