Program Director – Graduate Orthodontic Residency Program

Position Overview

The Program Director will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Graduate Orthodontics (GSO) Residency Program. Working closely with the GSO Board of Trustees, the Director will ensure the program meets and exceeds accreditation standards, delivers excellence in clinical and didactic education, and remains aligned with contemporary orthodontic education models.

The Director must ensure full compliance with standards established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) for Advanced Specialty Education Programs in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

 

Job Responsibilities

Program Leadership & Accreditation

  • Develop, implement, and sustain a successful Post-Graduate Orthodontic Residency Program in full compliance with CODA Accreditation Standards.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with requirements of the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Lead accreditation reporting, documentation, and site visit preparation.
  • Identify and evaluate perceived weaknesses within the program and implement corrective measures to maintain or exceed standards.
  • Provide evidence-based instruction in both didactic and clinical settings.
  • Plan and schedule semester-based didactic, clinical, and research experiences to meet CODA standards.
  • Continuously update curriculum, clinical protocols, and research components to reflect contemporary orthodontic education methods and best practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in MBT mechanics and modern orthodontic treatment modalities.
  • Ensure American Board of Orthodontics outcomes for patient treatment within the residency clinic.
  • Assign course directorships aligned with faculty expertise.

Collaboration & Strategic Growth

  • Lead efforts to build relationships with healthcare partners and other institutions.
  • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration with other dental and medical specialties.
  • Support research initiatives and foster a scholarly academic environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience at a university level, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in mentoring residents and junior faculty.
  • Master’s Degree in Orthodontics and/or Ph.D. from a CODA-accredited program.
  • Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
  • Eligibility for faculty licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • Demonstrated record of research and scholarly activity.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary orthodontic techniques, including MBT mechanics.
