The Anesthesia Student Employee in Surgical Services plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the surgical department. This position is ideal for students interested in veterinary medicine, surgical care, or healthcare operations. The role involves maintaining cleanliness, managing supplies, and assisting with surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient preparation prior to anesthesia.
- Transport patients, supplies, and equipment as directed.
- Clean, restock, and maintain anesthesia work areas, induction/recovery areas, and operating rooms.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper function of monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines, and surgical tools (excluding calibration and operation requiring credentialing).
- Observe and learn anesthetic procedures under the supervision of anesthesiologists and technicians, without performing anesthetic monitoring or drug administration.
- Assist with inventory management by stocking supplies, checking expiration dates, and organizing equipment.
- Participate in hands-on cross-training in the Operating Room (OR), including preparing surgical suites, setting up surgical instruments and equipment, assisting with sterile field maintenance (non-sterile role), patient positioning, and post-procedure room turnover.

- Currently enrolled as a student at Auburn University
- Interest in veterinary medicine
- Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain a sterile environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
