Job DetailsJob Location: Central Maine - Auburn, ME 04210Title of Position: Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Bargaining Unit / Salary Range: Salary and Benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit. Depending on experience and qualifications, the position is expected to pay in the vicinity of $65,295.76. Responsibilities: The Director of Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer leads the College’s sports medicine program while serving as the primary athletic trainer for its intercollegiate athletic programs. This position is responsible for the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student-athletes across all intercollegiate sports, while supporting their overall health, wellness, and performance. The role provides immediate athletic training services during regular office hours, practices, competitions, and athletic events, including injury response, emergency care, acute assessment, and implementation of concussion and emergency action protocols. The Director also oversees injury case management from evaluation through rehabilitation and return-to-play, while maintaining accurate, confidential documentation in compliance with applicable legal and institutional requirements. This position supervises the Fitness Center Coordinator and oversees additional athletic training support, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and supervision of contracted or per diem athletic trainers to ensure appropriate coverage for athletic programs and events. The Director collaborates on strength and conditioning efforts and supports the ongoing development of the College’s fitness center operations and services. Working closely with coaches, athletic staff, medical providers, and campus partners, the Director promotes a culture of safety, wellness, and student success while providing strategic and operational leadership for the College’s sports medicine program. This includes oversight of clinical operations, emergency preparedness, policy implementation, resource management, and compliance with professional, institutional, and regulatory standards.This is a year-round salaried position with a schedule that varies based on the athletic calendar. Evening and weekend hours are regularly required, and workweeks may exceed 40 hours during peak athletic seasons, with flexibility during off-peak periods. Minimum Qualifications: Current licensure as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Maine or ability to obtain State of Maine licensure Bachelor’s degree Valid driver’s license and approval through the College’s vehicle insurance policy to drive college-owned vehicles. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree 3+ years’ experience as an Athletic Trainer in intercollegiate athletics 3+ years supervisory experience Knowledge of FERPA & HIPAA Applicant Process: Consideration of applications will begin August 31st, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.
