Job DetailsJob Location: Maine - Auburn - Auburn, ME 04210Position Type: Full-TimeSalary Range: $22.00 HourlyPosition Summary The Cylinder Sorter is a front-line production role responsible for receiving, sorting, inspecting, and staging compressed gas cylinders as they move through the plant. Working on the production floor, the Sorter organizes incoming empty and full cylinders by gas type, size, and ownership, verifies cylinder condition and markings, and keeps the cylinder yard accurate, orderly, and safe. This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training provided; no prior experience with compressed gases is required, but reliability, attention to detail, and comfort with physical work are essential. Key Responsibilities Sort incoming and outgoing cylinders by gas type, size, valve type, and ownership, and stage them in the correct locations for fill, shipping, or storage. Visually inspect cylinders for damage, corrosion, leaks, missing or illegible labels, and expired hydrostatic test dates, and remove any out-of-spec cylinders from service. Verify and match cylinder markings, tags, and barcodes; scan cylinders and record movements accurately in the tracking system. Secure cylinders properly with caps, chains, and straps at all times to prevent tipping or rolling. Keep the cylinder yard, dock, and sorting areas clean, organized, and free of trip and safety hazards. Segregate cylinders by hazard class and follow all DOT, OSHA, and company procedures for the handling and storage of compressed and cryogenic gases. Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and inventory discrepancies to the supervisor. Support general production duties and other tasks as assigned. QualificationsRequired Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience. Ability to reliably lift, push, pull, and maneuver cylinders weighing up to 50-150 lbs (often by rolling and tilting rather than lifting) throughout an 8-hour shift. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on your feet for the full shift, indoors and outdoors in varying weather. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow written and verbal safety procedures precisely. Dependable attendance and a strong safety-first mindset. Basic reading, counting, and recordkeeping skills; comfort using a handheld scanner after training. Must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications Prior warehouse, production, manufacturing, or material-handling experience. Forklift certification, or willingness to become certified. Familiarity with compressed gas, welding supply, or DOT-regulated products. Physical Requirements & Work Environment Work is performed in a warehouse, plant, and outdoor cylinder yard. The role involves repetitive lifting and moving of heavy cylinders, exposure to seasonal temperatures, noise, and typical industrial conditions. Steel-toed boots and other personal protective equipment are required and provided per company policy.
