Job Summary:

Active participant in MGH CNA Earn to Learn program or equivalent program. Attends CNA classes and meets all classroom requirements. Participates in required clinical training and meets all applicable requirements.  Performs basic patient assistance duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Job Description:

Position: CNA Trainee

The Opportunity:
This is an Earn to Learn position, where candidates are hired directly as CNA Trainees. In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting patients with emotional, spiritual, and recreational needs.

  • Performing specific skills and competencies—within scope of practice—after satisfactory demonstration, as defined by regulatory guidelines.

  • Supporting continuity of care by engaging in shift communications, team huddles, and walking rounds.

  • Helping maintain orderly patient rooms by keeping supplies stocked and spaces tidy.

  • Providing calm, supportive conversation for patients experiencing agitation or confusion.

Program Duration:
The program runs for 10 weeks and includes:

  • One 8-hour paid class per week

  • 40 hours of clinical instruction, including a combination of 8- and 12-hour paid shifts

  • Weekly schedule options of 24, 32, or 40 hours, including class time
    (Available shifts: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM or 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM)

  • Every other weekend shift required

  • 3–5 hours of study time expected outside of regular work hours

Program Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Successful completion of a basic math and reading skills assessment

  • Reliable attendance for all classes, clinical training, and scheduled shifts
