SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Safety Coordinator supports and coordinates all facility safety programs while providing safety training to hourly employees. This role is responsible for promoting a positive safety culture by delivering effective training, ensuring compliance with safety policies, and reinforcing safe work practices across all departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide relevant safety data and updates to Department Managers for pre-shift meetings.
- Facilitate New Hire Orientation safety training for new associates.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections throughout the facility, including:
- Behavioral-Based Observations
- Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Observations
- Hazard Communication (GHS)
- Hazardous Energy Control (LOTO)
- Ergonomics assessments
- Process Safety Management (PSM) tasks
- Emergency equipment inspections
- Deliver ongoing safety training to maintain OSHA compliance and improve safety culture, including:
- Monthly Safety Training
- Annual OSHA Compliance Training
- Assist in tracking, recording, and reporting quarterly safety performance metrics.
- Respond to and investigate incidents or accidents within the facility:
- Provide containment and support corrective actions
- Assist with recertification processes
- Participate in root cause investigations
- Support post-accident procedures, including documentation and drug testing.
- Maintain safety communication materials on bulletin boards and facility monitors.
- Ensure employee compliance with GMP standards, dress code requirements, and FPL policies.
- Assist with security compliance and employee suspensions as needed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall safety performance.
- Evaluate employee training progress and proficiency levels, including:
- Proficient
- Certified
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety or related field preferred.
- OSHA training and CPR/AED/First Aid certification a plus.
EXPERIENCE
- 1–3 years of administrative experience.
- Manufacturing experience required; prior safety experience preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS, COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident presenting to large groups.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to maintain confidentiality.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.
- Must be able to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Near-visual acuity required for reading manuals, instructions, and documentation.
- Adequate depth perception and peripheral vision required when operating vehicles.
WORK SCHEDULE
- 40+ hours per week, Monday through Friday (occasional Saturday work based on production needs).
- Standard schedule: 5:00 AM – 2:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch.
- Schedule may change based on Safety Department needs.
