Assists in planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of the Traffic Signal Division of the Augusta Engineering Department including state routes within the guidelines of supervisory instructions, department policies and procedures, Georgia Department of Transportation standards, work orders, county and state regulations, and the latest adopted edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Reports directly to the Manager, Traffic Signal Maintenance. This position will also coordinate with Georgia DOT personnel, contractors, utilities, developers, surveyors, citizens, and other city/county departments.

Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards
- Supervises skilled technicians and trainees performing fieldwork involving the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of traffic signal control equipment and systems.
- Supervises the repair of electrical, electronic, and microprocessor-based equipment to the component level in the signal shop.
- Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates employees.
- Supervises the testing and evaluation of traffic signal control equipment for system compatibility.
- Supervises and participates with Traffic Signal Technicians in the construction and maintenance of traffic signals.
- Serves as a resource to subordinate personnel.
- Responds to citizen requests or complaints regarding traffic signal issues.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Inspects job sites for compliance with Augusta-Richmond County code and The Georgia Department of Transportation specifications.
- Travel required from office to other locations on a regular basis.
- Will act as 24-hour on-call back up for signal and tree on-call personnel.
- Provides on-site traffic control for special events.
Education:Â High School diploma, GED, trade school, or equivalent level of education.
Experience: Five (5) years experience in traffic operations or traffic signal maintenance activities.Â
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Â
- Considerable knowledge of supervision principles and practices, The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, interrelated operations of electrical controls and devices, and civil engineering.
- Familiarity with the Augusta-Richmond County traffic signal computer system and county codes and ordinances pertaining to construction and maintenance.
- Proficiency in management and supervision, reading and interpreting blueprints, performing standard mathematical calculations, and operating a computer.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Certification: Possess IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Level III

Licensing: Must have a valid state operator/driver’s license for the type vehicle operated. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

This position require staff call up in an emergency situation.
Â
Travel from the office to other locations is required of this position more than 50% of the time.
Â
May supervise up to six (6) people.
